(Ecns)-- A man has sued his housing agency for deception after his newly-bought home turned out to be a "haunted house."
A Beijing court heard the case on Monday.
According to reports by the Beijing Times, the man surnamed Li bought the flat in Haidian district from 5i5j Property, a national second-hand housing trade agency, in last March. He paid 2.68 million yuan (about $421,000) for the flat and another 50,000 yuan as service fee.
Li later learned from his neighbors that his home was a "haunted house." Two previous tenants had died there under mysterious circumstances, they told him.
Li then asked the agency to resell the house, and he began inquiries about its history. Li found out that the son of the previous owner had died in the house, and that his wife had also hanged herself.
Li said the agency had been hiding information and took his case to court, asking the agency to cancel the deal and return his money.
Li withdrew the lawsuit after seeing such a big turnout from the media.
The agency told the newspaper that the house was unlucky. 5i5j says they have tracked down some 3,000 unlucky or haunted houses in Beijing, but usually clients have no access to the database. As for Li's flat, the agency says they may rent it out after a renovation.
