(ECNS) -- A mainland tourist died in a Hong Kong hospital Tuesday morning after fighting with a tour leader in a jewellery shop.
The 54-year-old victim, surnamed Miao, from northeastern China's Heilongjiang province was reported dead at 10:45 am.
Miao and his wife, surnamed Zhang, were among a tour group including members from Hubei, Shandong and Heilongjiang provinces, which had arrived from Shenzhen on Sunday.
On Monday, the group was taken by a mainland tour leader surnamed Deng to a jewellery store in Hung Hom for shopping.
Around 11 am, local police arrived at the scene and found Miao lying unconscious.
Police on Tuesday arrested a Hong Konger and a mainlander in connection with the case after arresting Deng and Miao's wife the day before.
A resource said the couple had a dispute with Deng and jostled with each other. Later the couple was attacked by four men.
Police said the case would be classified as manslaughter.
The National Tourism Administration on Tuesday afternoon urged its branch in Hong Kong to co-operate with, assist and support its local counterpart. It also hopes Hong Kong would thoroughly investigate the incident, properly handle the follow-up and protect the interests of mainland tourists.
In 2010, the 65-year-old mainland visitor Chen Youming, a table tennis coach from Hunan Province, had a heart attack and died after quarrelling with a tour guide who allegedly refused to let him leave a jewelry shop.
