(ECNS) -- The Hong Kong Travel Industry Council is discussing price guidelines for tours to Hong Kong, Xinhua reported on Wednesday.
The announcement comes after the death of a mainland tourist in an alleged attack over a shopping dispute in Hong Kong last week.
Michael Wu Siu-ieng, the council's chairman, said in response to the mainland's crackdown on "free" tours, that they may provide a price guide each quarter as a reminder of market information for consumers.
He estimated that there would be a 30 percent drop in mainland tourist groups to Hong Kong from November.
Travel industry insiders said some travel agents were known to offer very cheap packages to attract customers, relying on commissions from sales during shopping stops. They also may hire "shadow tour members" to persuade visitors to spend more on shopping trips.
