(ECNS) -- Third party mobile payments have topped the list of methods used by Chinese netizens for the first time, according to a report from Beijing-based internet intelligence agency Sootoo.
In the third quarter, third party mobile payment transactions accounted for 27.1 percent of the total trading volume, 1.7 percent higher than third party internet payments, it said.
China's two popular mobile-payment systems, Alipay and WeChat payments took the largest market share.
Mobile payments are the latest bone of contention between the two giants, which have gone head-to-head over everything from taxi services to banking.
Total trading volume of the third party payment business rose to 9 trillion yuan in the third quarter, a 200 percent increase from 2013, the report said.
