(ECNS) -- Colleges have seen an increase in pregnancy among post-graduate students who are seeking advantages in job-hunting amid a sluggish labor market, the Beijing Youth Daily reports.
A teacher at the College of Marxism of a key university in Beijing told the newspaper that each grade has one or two pregnant post-grads, and that there are even more this year.
The number of "post-graduate mothers" is rising steadily, a doctor at Beijing Normal University's school hospital said.
A human resource chief said post-graduate students will underline "married and having a child" on their resumes, as a way to enhance their competitiveness. He added that it works, as employers usually take into consideration the losses incurred by maternity leave.
A female post-graduate student at a job fair complained that she had been repeatedly told by employers that women are not welcome for the best jobs. She found she was offered fewer opportunities for interviews than those who had already given birth.
"When do you plan to marry and have children" are compulsory question at interviews.
Wang Pei'an, spokesman for the National Health and Family Planning Commission, said at a news conference that by the end of October, women are likely to face employment difficulties and workplace prejudices, one of the challenges of the second-child policy.
