(ECNS) -- A well-known art critic has called for primary and middle schools to offer drama courses to popularise such education among Chinese children.

Drama is an indispensable part of education for teens in the Western world as many schools have related classes, but in China, students seldom receive drama education, said Li Fang, also a writer and book collector.

Some teens in major Chinese cities have never been to the theatre, it was added.

Most children have the desire to perform, and drama lessons will give them a chance, which will enable them to enrich their life experience and develop wisdom, he said.

Recognizing the fact that the country will need more teachers and investment to offer drama lessons in schools nationwide, Li suggested the practice be test launched at well-equipped schools in major cities and then extended to other parts of the nation.
