(ECNS) -- The Ministry of Education has denied speculations that writing by or about revolutionary leaders and heroic figures had been deleted from textbooks for elementary and secondary school.
A statement posted on the ministry's website said online speculations were "seriously inconsistent with the facts".
It said the ministry has always attached great importance to education on revolutionary traditions.
According to statistics, Chinese textbooks for compulsory education have a total of 115 articles related to senior Chinese revolutionists, including 37 pieces about Chairman Mao Zedong. Textbooks also include 18 writings by writer Lu Xun (1881-1936) and many pieces with regard to revolutionary heroes or heroines.
The ministry says it welcomes suggestions to the improvement of textbooks and opposes false comments ignoring facts.
