(ECNS) -- An old couple has lived underground for over ten years for work convenience in Zhengzhou, capital of Central China's Henan province, despite chances to move to a better dwelling, local news portal dahe.cn reported.
Their home is a 50-square meter underground room below a well-shaped hole, designed for the air conditioning facilities of a university. The place is well equipped with necessary household appliances, such as TV, refrigerator and washing machine.
The wife is responsible for turning on and off the air conditioning machines every day. The husband is involved with maintenance at the university. They planned to live in a rented place at first but found it costly and inconvenient.
The couple has lived in the place, 5 meters under the ground, for over ten years, rejecting the university's offer of a dormitory room.
The wife says she has gotten used to the dim light and moist air in the crowded space. The only trouble for her is the loud noise from the air conditioning machines.
