(ECNS) -- Chinese parents are obsessed with their children's education, and most of them have varying degrees of parenting anxiety, the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) said in a family education survey released on Tuesday.
More than 70 percent of the parents in the survey admitted to supervising their kids while they did homework.
More than 40 percent of the parents said that schools reducing the burden on children has increased parents' workloads.
Most of the parents, 78.3 percent, hope their children will respect the elderly, love younger people and shoulder family responsibilities in the future, followed by those who want their children to be physically and mentally healthy and happy. However, what puzzles parents most is how to educate their children, according to the survey.
The issues parents are most concerned with are their children's safety and security, accounting for 64.1 percent, and poor academic performance, at 50.4 percent. In nearly half of the households, mothers shoulder the education responsibility, while fathers are often "absent".
The survey warns that parents pay insufficient attention to their children's skills in doing household chores and sports. The respondents also said their children were poorest in doing chores.
China should further improve family education policies and measures, and introduce the family education law as soon as possible, while setting up an effective self-education platform for parents, the ACWF suggests.
