(ECNS) -- New subway luggage restrictions in Beijing that took effect on Feb. 1 limit the maximum carry-on weight to 30 kilograms, Beijing Youth Daily reports.
The new rules from Beijing Rail Transit also places strict limits on the length, width and height at 1.8 meters and 0.5 meter maximum respectively.
Excessive overweight baggage could cause danger to passengers, so the new rules have explicit limits, according to the media.
Multiple subway stations have put up notices from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport based on the new rules, but found it difficult to enforce because staff can only inspect visible bags due to the great number of passengers, the report said.
Passengers who refuse to undergo security checks, force their way into stations or disrupt inspection personnel will be reported to local public security offices and face penalties, according to the latest regulation.
