(ECNS) -- Beijing’s upcoming administrative sub-center would cover the whole area of a 155-square-kilometer new town under construction in Tongzhou district, Beijing Youth Daily cited a city planning official as saying on Wednesday.
Wang Fei, a deputy director of the municipal commission of urban planning, said at a policy meeting that the sub-center would be equipped with better educational, medical care and elderly care facilities compared with downtown Beijing, alongside open city blocks and utility tunnels. It would also take the lead in piloting new technologies.
In future, every block in the sub-center would have a public park accessible to 85 percent of residents within a radius of 200 meters, while efforts would be made to improve planning to build facilities suitable for walking and cycling.
Wang said the plans need to be approved first by central government before implementation.
