(ECNS) -- Beijing has held a meeting to solicit opinions from across the world for the planning of a new sub-center.
The master plan, as well as detailed plans for the administrative sub-center's six major areas, will likely be completed by the end of this year, the People’s Daily Overseas Edition reported on Tuesday.
The meeting brought together more than 100 international experts, who provided opinions and suggestions.
In June, Beijing sent invitations to 50 of the world’s top urban planning teams. At the weekend’s meeting, it was announced that 12 joint design teams from nine countries and regions, involving a total of 26 organizations, had been selected for the planning of the new sub-center.
A municipal official said they hoped designers would give full consideration to the historical and cultural traditions of Beijing and China.
“The planning should highlight natural beauty, and the sub-center should not be dominated by high-rises,” said the official.
The planning will also give consideration to regional coordination, and will stress green, low carbon, sustainable development, according to the report.
