(ECNS) -- A woman who lost her son, a fireman, during the deadly explosions in Tianjin last year has conceived after undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
Liu Yun'ai, who is mother to a daughter and a son, said she wanted to commit suicide many times after her son Cai Jiayuan was killed in the blasts.
In September 2015, she received IVF treatments at a hospital in Changsha City, the capital of Central China's Hunan Province.
Doctors there told her the success rate was barely five percent for women her age. She was also informed that young women in general, who have a success rate of 70 percent, can still fail to remain pregnant despite spending more than 200,000 yuan ($30,400).
Liu asked for the opinion of her husband Cai Laiyuan, who said: "If there's only a shred of hope, we will give it a try."
To get in the best shape, Liu stayed in Changsha for two months, getting up at 6 a.m. and exercising heavily whenever she had time. Liu finally became pregnant and now expects to give birth at the end of June.
"He will be named Cai Jiacheng (cheng means success in Chinese), and finally we made it," she said.
A series of explosions killed more than 100 people and injured hundreds of others at a warehouse in Tianjin on August 12 last year.
