(ECNS) -- A hall in the Summer Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Beijing, has lost a beautiful architectural detail during the Spring Festival, China's Lunar New Year, local newspaper The Mirror reported.
The yellow glazed ceramic component, symbolizing an immortal figure riding a phoenix, was originally located on the hall's ridge, a common form of Chinese imperial roof decoration.
It went missing during the week-long Spring Festival holiday, said Wu Xiaoping, a member of the Beijing Association of Cultural Heritages Protection.
Wu suspects that the figurine was stolen.
The Summer Palace is a popular tourist destination and recreational park with a vast ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces.
