(ECNS) -- Beijing still needs time to decide whether or not to allow more subway stations to offer discounted fares, the Beijing Times reported.
Authorities began a trial run to encourage commuters to travel during non-rush hours on Dec. 28, 2015, which will last till the end of this year.
Commuters using a travel card can enjoy a 30-percent discount on each ride at one of the 11 stations on the Batong Line and five Changping Line stations. Their journeys must start before 7 a.m. on workdays, according to Beijing Subway, which runs most of the lines in the capital.
An official from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said Beijing will make an assessment after the pilot period ends and decide whether or not to expand the program next year.
The official said that since the policy was adopted, passenger numbers before 7 a.m. increased by three to five percent, while between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. they decreased by one to ten percent.
But, according to the official, the available data is insufficient to determine a review of the policy.
