(ECNS) -- The first round of this year's car license-plate lottery in Beijing saw more than 12,200 applications for new energy plates, accounting for nearly one-fourth of the annual quota for the category, the Beijing Morning Post reported.
Details on the first batch of applications for the 2016 license plate lottery were released Thursday on the website of Beijing's passenger-car quota-management system.
The total quota for passenger cars is 150,000 this year, including 60,000 for new energy cars (51,000 for individuals, 3,000 for organizations and enterprises, and 6,000 for transport services).
In addition, 1,819 applications for organizations and enterprises have been approved, taking up 61 percent of the annual quota for this category.
As for conventional cars, this year's lucky draw is even more competitive, with the quota for each round of the lottery having fallen to 13,500 from last year's 17,600. The success rate for obtaining a license plate in the first round was just 0.15 percent, down from 0.49 percent in December, which means only one out of 665 applicants was successful, compared to one in 204 in December.
