(ECNS) -- Garments made by the French brand Hermes frequently failed quality tests last year and were destroyed or sent back, according to a report by Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
It said in an annual report that several shipments of Hermes garments from January to March 2015 were found to contain high levels of formaldehyde.
These garments were all made in France.
The bureau said it subsequently increased testing of the brand's products following such incidence.
Paint from the United States and ceramic tiles from Malaysia were also among products that did not pass China's quality standards.
In 2015, the bureau seized 598 shipments of imported garments that failed quality tests valued at a total of $4.33 million.
