(ECNS) -- Senior management positions held by women in the Chinese mainland have increased by five percentage points from last year to 30 percent, higher than the global average of 24 percent, according to Women in Business, published by U.S.-based audit and tax firm Grant Thornton on Monday.
Companies without senior women managers dropped from 25 percent to 16 percent this year, according to the report.
It surveyed 5,520 businesses in 36 economies and found that companies and women value the attributes of good leadership differently, and have different understandings of how they will look in practice.
Across the world, the biggest driver for women taking senior leadership positions is the ability to influence business strategies and effect change, chosen by 37 percent of the survey's respondents.
In terms of what makes a good leader, communication is generally regarded as the most important attribute on the Chinese mainland.
It also shows that 26.8 percent of female leaders highly value a positive attitude, while the percentage is only 14 percent for men.
