(ECNS) -- Ride-hailing service Uber said it has rejected a compensation claim for mental damages by a passenger who was injured while riding in an Uber car, the Beijing Times has reported.
The man, surnamed Lian, said he hailed an Uber ride early one morning and was injured when the car collided with another vehicle. He was treated in a hospital, but his injuries prevent him from bending over or sitting on his own.
Police said the Uber driver was fully responsible for the accident.
The man accused the driver of driving while fatigued, and has demanded that Uber pay 100,000 yuan ($15,000) as compensation for mental damages.
A Public Relations manager for Uber called the claim "blackmail," but promised to deal with the man's requirements properly.
Uber also said it has been in close contact with the passenger and started insurance claims. But the claim for more than 100,000 yuan is beyond the normal claim process.
