(ECNS) -- A police dog standing up straight against a wall in a Shanghai subway station has become an online sensation.
In pictures posted on microblogging site Sina Weibo, the dog called Jess stood up on its two hind legs while a police officer held its two forepaws and bowed his head as if in conversation with the dog.
The hilarious images were forwarded 540,000 times and received 9,000 comments and more than 330,000 likes, enough to give the usually intimidating dog Internet celebrity status.
A Weibo user, identified as a police officer working for the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, responded on behalf of the dog, saying "I was naughty today, but I will work more diligently from now on. I will not let you down."
The officer's comment has been forwarded more than 10,000 times since it was published on Wednesday morning.
He also said the dog was disciplined because it had behaved mischievously while in its keeper's care.
Shanghai has China's first police dog force trained specially to work on the city's subway lines, Xinhua reported last year.
