(ECNS) -- A villager in northwestern Xi'an of Shaanxi Province has invested 800,000 yuan ($123,000) in installing a photovoltaic power station system at his home and expects to make money by selling electricity.
Song Xiaodong, who lives in Yuedengge Village, could receive an income of about 3,000 to 4,000 yuan per month from leasing out 40 rooms in his three-story building.
Instead, Song has installed two lines of solar panels on the roof of his house, which can convert solar energy into direct current electricity with a capacity of 64 kilowatts.
The total cost of the system is nearly 800,000 yuan and is expected to have a life cycle of at least 20 years. The system has passed testing by the local power supply authorities and been in operation for half a month.
Song can receive subsidies from both the city and the province, which add up to 120,000 yuan, said Liu Dong, the director of a new energy company and builder of the project.
Liu also said that Song can recover costs in about six to seven years, making the venture more profitable than rental housing.
"This is the most confident thing I have done this year," said Song.
