(ECNS) -- The Ministry of Education and four other government departments have released a joint notice that bans students at vocational schools from taking internships at bars, nightclubs and other entertainment venues.
The notice carries 39 rules in six chapters covering internships for students to address a series of problems including underpaid work, a first in China's education history.
It says students, schools and employers must first sign agreements that make clear each party's rights and responsibilities during an internship.
Interns will get no less than 80 percent of formal employee salaries, to also be applied during probation. Payments must be made in full and in cash, according to the guideline. Neither the school nor employer can charge interns fees or commissions.
It also forbids student internships at entertainment spots including bars, nightclubs, karaoke establishments or bath centers.
The guideline also sets other requirements on the administration of internships to make them organized and formal.
