(ECNS) – Shanghai will ensure that land is reserved for use for advanced manufacturing up until 2040, said Cen Fukang, the deputy-director of the municipal bureau of planning and land resources, on Tuesday.
In addition to protecting basic farmland, Shanghai will always work to meet basic land demand from advanced and high-end manufacturing industries, Cen said.
Developing advanced manufacturing is an important part of Shanghai's overall industrial development, and the city will also "reserve room" for automobile and jumbo jet manufacturing, among others, he said.
Utilization efficiency will also be an important factor in planning, he added.
According to plans that are still in the pipeline, downtown Shanghai will keep a relatively small amount of land for industrial purposes, while suburban land for industrial use will account for at least 15 to 20 percent of the total reserved for construction purposes.
