(ECNS) -- An 18-month-old baby had 23 percent of his body burned in a fire set by his 3-year-old brother in Linshui County, southwest China's Sichuan Province, Chongqing Morning News reported.
Luo Chunchun, mother of the two children, went to the field to collect some vegetables while her younger son slept at home on March 25.
The 3-year-old also stayed at home and didn't go to kindergarten because he had caught a cold. But 30 minutes after his mother left home, the boy found a lighter in the kitchen and set fire to straw on the bed.
By the time the 29-year-old mother returned, the whole house was on fire and the baby, Tongtong, was badly injured.
He went through three skin surgeries at Southwest Hospital, treatment that cost 140,000 yuan ($21,400), leaving the family deeply in debt.
