(ECNS) – The Shanghai Disney Resort may limit visitor numbers when it officially opens to the public on June 16, said officials at a press conference held by the Shanghai municipal government on Thursday.
The resort recently opened its gates for a trial run and has received 960,000 visitors in the past 23 days, according to Liu Zhengyi, executive deputy director of the Shanghai International Tourism and Resorts Zone commission.
All admission tickets for the first two weeks after Shanghai Disney's official opening are sold out, but tickets for certain hours from July through the end of September 30 are still available, according to a report by Beijing Youth Daily. Visitors are advised to place orders through official channels and plan their trips in advance.
Responding to feedback from visitors regarding the expense of the resort, Wang Kai, the resort's vice-president of public affairs, said the price of a standard day ticket at the Shanghai location is low when compared to other Disney resorts around the world, and is suitable for China's middle-class consumers.
According to Shanghai Disney's website, a standard day ticket is priced at 370 yuan, but that increases to 499 yuan on peak days. That is not the lowest admission price globally.
More than 2,800 sets of sensors have been installed in and around the resort to assist in the monitoring and management of visitor flows, ensuring a quick response to possible emergencies, officials said.
The 3.9-square-kilometer resort cost about 34 billion yuan ($5.2 billion), according to the commission.
