(ECNS) - United States Ambassador to China Max Sieben Baucus called himself a proficient user of China's popular mobile networking app WeChat, listing among his online friends Cui Tiankai, the Chinese Ambassador to the U.S.

Baucus disclosed his enthusiasm for WeChat during a reception at the Select USA Investment Summit, organized by the China General Chamber of Commerce for the USA and China's Embassy.

Baucus called some 170 entrepreneurs at the summit from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong "lao peng you," or old friends in Chinese.

Total investment by Chinese companies in the U.S. is expected to reach 50 billion yuan, starting from nearly zero about 15 to 20 years ago, said the ambassador.

The old China hand said he is now a "WeChat Nut" and believes the application reduces his distance from the Chinese people.

On the prospect of bilateral relations, Baucus said he will remain upbeat and confident regardless of who is elected the next U.S. president.
