(ECNS) -- Local authorities in Wuhu County of Anhui Province said most of the crocodiles that escaped from an enclosure with the help of floodwater were caught, Beijing News reports.
An announcement from the county's tourism bureau previously warned that many crocodiles had escaped from a farm in Huaqiao Town into agricultural fields when the area was hit by floodwater.
The department urged the town to verify the number of escaped reptiles as soon as possible and also put up signs warning local residents to be careful.
The deputy head of the town later told the newspaper that most of the escaped crocodiles were caught.
Tao Huoyan, who raises crocodiles in a lake at his farm, said the rising water enabled the animals to escape from an enclosure but that they didn't cause casualties or property loss.
He added that there are about 90 Yangtze alligators on his farm for visitors to see.
Local police are said to investigate the case, the report added.
