(ECNS) -- A court in southern China's Hengxian County, Guagnxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, sentenced a woman to three years in prison with two years probation for selling her two daughters, people.com.cn reported.
The woman sold her younger daughter for 19,000 yuan ($2,864) in 2014 and then the eldest for 13,000 yuan one month later.
Charged with child trafficking, the woman apparently counted the money right in front of her child in the second deal, holding the notes to the sky to check if they were real.
Both children, born in 2011 and 2013 respectively, were rescued, and reunited with their father.
Since the mother was in a breast-feeding period, the court gave her two years probation and fined her 5,000 yuan, but the two children will be raised by their father.
The verdict stated that the couple started living together in 2008 although they didn't get married and were later on bad terms.
