The stars on the Chinese flags raised during the swimming and shooting medal ceremonies were incorrectly positioned.
The Chinese embassy in Brazil has made representations to Brazil after the Chinese Rio delegation lodged a complaint with Games organizers.
Chinese Consul General to Rio de Janeiro Song Yang told Agemar Sanctos, Institutional Relations Director of the organizing committee, to immediately rectify the mistake.
Sanctos said the organizing committee was very sorry for using the flawed flags in award ceremonies.
All the flags used in the Games were made by a third-party company, which will be required to fix the problem, according to the Olympics official.
He promised to solve the problem in an optimal way as soon as possible.
China's Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro also said it will pay close attention to the issue and ask Brazil authorities to address it as soon as possible.
