(ECNS) -- Chinese diving star Wu Minxia said she will need a good rest, including spending more time with her parents, after ending her Olympic career with another gold medal. [Special coverage]
The 30-year-old and her partner Shi Tingmao beat their competition in all five dives to secure the gold medal in the women's 3-meter synchronized springboard.
Wu has now won the most Olympic diving medals by a woman, surpassing compatriot Guo Jingjing with seven podium finishes. She also became the oldest woman to win an Olympic diving medal, overtaking the USA's Micki King, who was 28 when she won the springboard title in 1972.
Wu said her diving career ends now and that she has no regrets. "It's been hard for many years for me, and I'm really tired," said Wu, who has been fighting with fatigue and injuries.
Chinese diving team leader Zhou Jihong said few people could imagine how dedicated Wu has been.
"I might have given up if I knew it was so difficult," said Wu.
Talking about future plans, Wu said she will stop now to rest and think about the future, or study.
Wu, who likes keeping a low profile, said her dream is to live a simple life.
