(ECNS) -- The Rio Olympics will soon replace the Chinese flags after complaints over a design flaw, said Mario Andrada, Executive Director of Communications of the Games' organizing committee. [Special coverage]
Andrada said "We do understand that there is a problem with the flag ...... You have to be very familiar with the Chinese flag to understand that. However we need to correct it."
Andrada said the Olympics organizers contacted the manufacturer yesterday after finding the problem over the weekend.
The company was producing flags with the correct design, and the first flags should be delivered shortly, he added.
The flawed flag was used at the Games' opening ceremony and later at awards ceremonies. The four small stars on the Chinese emblem are pointing incorrectly.
Chinese Consul General to Rio de Janeiro Song Yang previously told Agemar Sanctos, Institutional Relations Director of the organizing committee, to immediately rectify the mistake.
