(ECNS) -- A survey has found that over 80 percent of teachers are working under heavy stress, and 90 percent are unsatisfied with their incomes, caixin.com reported.
The monthly magazine Jiaoyu Bolan conducted the survey from April 11 to June 4, collecting more than 417,000 questionnaires from teachers ranging from primary schools to universities.
Teachers said their stress came from schools, especially performance evaluation and management systems, and also from financial and family concerns.
Sixty-one percent of teachers said their financial situations caused them pressure in the past two years.
The survey also found that 80 percent of teachers said they face a heavy workload, with 30 percent saying they are exhausted and lacking motivation. Five percent said their health condition is "terrible."
The actual monthly income for 61 percent of respondents, including bonuses and subsidies, ranges from 1,001 to 3,000 yuan ($150 - $300). Some 90 percent said they were unsatisfied with their financial status and struggled with family financial burdens.
In addition to financial woes, nearly 70 percent of teachers said they didn't feel respected by society and are treated as if they have lower social status.
