(ECNS) -- A report by CBNData, an enterprise data aggregator, said men are the dominant consumers of online running products while the majority of runners are aged 23 to 28 years old.
The running gear market in China has grown from mainly shoes to more diverse sports equipment such as wearable gadgets and other devices.
People in the 19 to 22 age group were the largest set of buyers of essential sports equipment, with those aged 29 to 35 spending more on non-essential items.
Women are more interested in exercise equipment such as treadmills while men favor wearable products, the report said.
Nearly half of running exercise takes place between 6 to 9 pm after work, and the length of each run averages about one hour. Besides, runners are more active in summer, running for longer distances than in winter.
Consumers of running products have spread from better-developed regions in the Yangtze and Pearl river deltas to central Chinese provinces.
Increasing numbers of Chinese are paying attention to health, driving a steady rise in the sports equipment industry, whose share of GDP has increased from 0.37 percent in 2012 to 0.41 percent in 2015.
The coastal city of Qingdao in Shandong Province leads the nation in the average monthly running distance by sports app users, followed by Shenzhen and Beijing.
