(ECNS) -- Two teachers are facing charges of intentional assault for torturing a 10-year-old boy to death in the eastern Chinese city of Quanzhou, Fujian Province, the China Youth Daily reported.
At around 7 a.m. on Sept. 14, 2015, the boy was discovered eating snacks he was not allowed to have at school, which angered a teacher named Chi. Chi disciplined the boy by tying him up before hanging him from a doorframe with the help of intern Cui and another student named Li.
When the rope became loose, the trio hung the boy again. The boy was released at 8 p.m., but at 4 a.m. the next morning he was woken up and hung from the door frame again.
At about 7 a.m., the boy was found semi-conscious and not breathing. Rescue attempts, including artificial respiration and acupuncture, were unsuccessful. Chi turned himself in to police the following day.
Forensic analysis showed that the boy died from suffocation.
Local authorities have charged Chi with criminal liability and Cui with minor responsibilities.
