(ECNS) -- Authorities in Beijing have launched a one-year campaign to crack down on violence and crimes against doctors following a national initiative, Beijing Morning News reported.
Nine departments jointly distributed a document about the campaign on Monday, saying it started in July and requires hospitals to file a report of incidents before Sept. 15.
The document also listed other measures including the installation of video surveillance equipment and designating people responsible for maintaining order. Hospitals will also establish a response to those prone to violence or with serious mental disorders.
The city's health and police departments will begin security checks in key hospitals.
Those who illegally carry banned tools into hospitals will be put under administrative detention. Police can keep suspects in custody for up to 20 days.
Police will "vigorously" deal with various security threats to doctors or nurses in accordance to law, the document stated. Officers will also be stationed in some hospitals to provide security.
