(ECNS) -- A private school in Beijing that organized student exchange programs to the United States was ordered by a court to pay back some of the fees after students complained of poor living conditions, Beijing Times reported.
Each of four students paid 330,000 yuan ($49,500) for a one-year exchange program organized by Beijing Shuren-Ribet Private School in April 2015.
They said they did not have enough to eat every day during their stay in the U.S., with only limited amount of milk provided to them and sometimes even an egg as a luxury.
The standard food provided by the school cost just 3.33 dollars a day, far from sufficient to meet basic living requirements, said one of the students.
One's parents said the school seriously breached the contract and violated student rights.
In a first lawsuit, the private school was required to pay both partial fees and compensation for missed air flights to a plaintiff. As the school appealed, two more junior high students and one primary student also filed similar suits.
The Third Intermediate People's Court in Beijing dismissed the appeal and required the school to pay the four students.
