(ECNS) -- Tourism authorities in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing have made an initial inquiry into a travel agency after eight tourists were taken into custody in South Korea over a scuffle with restaurant staff in the island resort Jeju.
The tourists from Nanjing in Jiangsu Province brought their own drinks to dine in the restaurant, which was against restaurant rules there. They then quarrelled with staff and started a fight.
A video clip showing the scuffle went viral on the Internet.
Three of the eight tourists were released by police but banned from leaving South Korea. Five others are still in custody.
The Nanjing Municipal Committee of Tourism said the incident happened when the tourists, who arrived in Jeju with the help of China Travel Service, were following their self-planned itinerary.
The committee has demanded that the agency assist further investigation. A latter of the agency was found to have fulfilled its responsibility of reminding tourists to behave well abroad and also handed written guidelines to tourists.
But the agency failed to comply with other requirements including reporting of the trip.
The committee also urged tourists to abide by the laws of destination countries, respect local customs and behave well.
