(ECNS) -- Samsung said it is investigating a Note 7 explosion reported in the Chinese mainland and will announce details in three to seven working days, the Beijing Youth Daily reported on Monday.
Early Sunday morning, a netizen nicknamed "Jiwawani" said in an online post that his blue Note 7 screen suddenly went black while he was in bed using it. He threw the phone away immediately as it was shaking, and soon after it exploded, according to the post.
According to his friend nicknamed "Jone_yao", the Note 7 was ordered on the Chinese online shopping site JD.com on August 26, when the phone was officially premiered, and was delivered to the buyer on September 2. The explosion occurred after it became overheated during normal use without the battery being charged, it was added.
JD.com has confirmed that the phone was a version sold in the Chinese mainland and supplied directly by Samsung.
Samsung said it was making contact with the Note 7 owner and would also check products in the same batch. If problems were detected, the company would recall the products, it was added.
Previously, Samsung announced the recall of 2.5 million Note 7s from all other parts of the world excluding the Chinese mainland, saying the phones sold there had a different battery supplier, hinting that the Note 7s in the mainland would not explode.
The newly released Note 7 has seen 35 explosions reported by users worldwide, some of which even caused severe fires, and Samsung blamed battery defects for these incidents. Last week, the company announced a recall of 1,858 Note 7 test phones in the Chinese mainland, while reassuring users that officially released phones would be free of potential safety risks.
