(ECNS) -- The Chinese embassy in Thailand on Thursday issued a notice requiring Chinese citizens to obey local customs while Thai people mourn the passing of their late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died at age 88 at Siriraj Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

The embassy stressed that Chinese citizens must pay special attention to their clothing and manners in public places, especially where mourning activities are held, obey Thailand's relevant stipulations as well as local customs and etiquette, and help maintain the friendship between the two peoples.

The Thai government declared a one-year mourning for the late king starting from Thursday, with national flags flying at half-mast and all public entertainment activities canceled for 30 days.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called on the Thai people to wear black clothing during the one-year period.

The Chinese embassy also publicized assistance hotlines, 0066-854833327 (around the clock) and 0066-2-2457010 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays).
