(ECNS) -- More than half of adult men in Beijing are overweight while 90 percent of senior students in high school are shortsighted, according to physical examination data from 2015 released by the Beijing Physical Examination Center Thursday afternoon.
In 2015, about 3.75 million physical examinations were carried out at 206 medical institutions in Beijing, among which 2.04 million were men.
Being overweight was the most common health problem found in adult men, followed by dyslipidemia, fatty livers, thyroid nodules and osteoporosis, data showed.
The overweight rate of adult males increased to 52.45 percent in 2015 from 40.45 percent a year earlier. Some 41.63 percent of adult females were diagnosed with breast hyperplasia.
Data on high school and middle school students showed that rates of poor eye sight and being overweight were high in both groups. In 2015, 90 percent of senior students in high school were found to be shortsighted, while 20.36 percent were found to be overweight and 14.45 percent obese.
Among third-year students in middle school, the rates of poor eye sight, being overweight and obesity were more than 80 percent, 14.71 percent and 10.27 percent respectively.
