(ECNS) -- Fire-prone Samsung smartphones were among the top complaints by Chinese consumers in the third quarter of 2016, according to a report by China Consumers Association.
About 29,720 complaints were against electronic products and household appliances, accounting for 33 percent of the total and eliciting the most complaints in the commodity sector, followed by clothing and shoes, vehicles, daily commodities and food, according to the association.
As a spate of exploding batteries raised alarms around the world, on Sept. 2 Samsung Electronics announced the recall of 2.5 million of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone models. But the South Korean electronics giant initially did not include China as part of the recall, claiming Note 7 smartphones supplied in the country had a different battery maker.
The way Samsung handled the recall caused widespread dissatisfaction among Chinese consumers. China Consumers Association and its local affiliates paid close attention to the issue and worked hard to protect the rights and interests of buyers. Under pressure, Samsung issued a recall in China earlier this month.
