(ECNS) -- Genetically modified farm products with government approval are safe to use, said the Ministry of Agriculture.
At a conference focusing on the supervision of agricultural GM plants, the ministry said transgenic technology is a new industry with broad development prospects.
Developing transgenic technology is a national priority, while GM agricultural products with government approval have passed rigid scientific evaluations, the ministry said.
The research and development should focus on independent innovation, and the promotion of transgenic products should be prudent, the ministry added.
The ministry urged related departments to ensure the safe use of transgenic technology and strengthen supervision according to law.
The ministry also deployed five key points for the supervision of transgenic products this year, including highlighting the focus of supervision, insisting on research and experiments, improving management and supervision abilities, and accelerating scientific education.
