(ECNS) -- A woman in her 30s in Yichang City, Central China's Hubei Province, delivered a baby boy and then twin girls six days later.
The woman surnamed Chen said she and her husband got married in 2012 but had had no children. In August 2016, she got pregnant with triplets, after receiving treatment in Wuhan, capital of the province.
At about 2 p.m. on February 21, Chen gave natural birth to a baby boy weighing 1.44 kilograms at the First Hospital of Yichang, but then her contractions ceased.
Chen Aihua, her obstetrician, decided to let her continue the pregnancy with the remaining twin baby girls, which Chen delivered at 10 p.m. on February 27. It was also a natural birth.
"I dreamed of having a child when I was not able to get pregnant," said the new mother. "Now, I have three and don't know what to do."
It was the first such case the obstetrician had ever treated in her 20 years practicing medicine. According to her, the mother had been pregnant with dizygotic triplets, meaning they had lived in two separate "rooms," the brother in one and the twin sisters in the other.
The premature babies have extremely low weights and are under intensive care at the hospital.
