(ECNS) -- Beijing transport authorities have urged bike-sharing companies and individual users to park bikes correctly after they caused chaos at a busy bus station, capital officials said.
On March 24, Chinese media reported that a lot of shared bikers flooded the bus station at Bawangfen in Chaoyang District, occupying pedestrian ways and affecting operations.
Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said both users and companies have the duty to promote the orderly parking of bikes.
Disorder in bike parking has violated regulations on transport as well as city image management.
The commission has been working to set up rules and punishments for bike-sharing companies and users in case of traffic violations, according to Beijing News.
Many cities, such as Shenzhen, Shanghai, Chengdu and Nanjing, have issued guidance to regulate the use of shared bikes, the report said.
Zhu Wei, a professor with China University of Political Science and Law, said using shared bikes as one of the green transport methods deserves to be encouraged. But providers should issue regulations to promote parking in the right places, it was added.
