(ECNS) -- About 64 percent of respondents to a new survey say parents should prepare Children's Day gifts for their kids, while another 15.9 percent say it's unnecessary.
The survey, jointly conducted by China Youth Daily and wenjuan.com, canvassed 2,074 people on the eve of Children's Day, with 78.9 percent of respondents having children and the other 21.1 percent having none.
The gifts might not necessarily be expensive, said Han Xi, a young entrepreneur based in Beijing. "There are many forms of gifts, such as a child's favorite toy, a trip they long for, or a wish fulfilled," he said.
According to the survey, 64.5 percent of respondents said Children's Day helped enhance the emotional bond between parents and kids, and 58.1 percent said it helped raise the public's awareness about children's rights and growth. While 54.4 percent regarded Children's Day merely as a special day for children, 21.3 percent saw a good marketing opportunity in it, and 13.5 percent thought it might provide a boost to consumption and the tourism industry.
As for how families generally spent the festival, 59.4 percent chose to take their children to an amusement park, 49.7 percent would buy gifts, and 45.7 favored participation in a show.
Other activities included paying a visit to a museum (35.8 percent), shopping for new clothes (30.6 percent), attending parties or dining together (28.2 percent), sending WeChat digital red packets with money (26.3 percent), attending hobby classes (19.3 percent), and participating in volunteer activities (12.7 percent).
