(ECNS) -- U.S. Ambassador to China Terry Branstad has vowed to smooth relations between the world's two largest economies and help address common challenges.
Branstad introduced his family to the media in front of their residence in Beijing on Wednesday.
He said there is a need to work together with China on some pressing issues, including Democratic People's Republic of Korea and expanding trade.
Branstad added he would help prepare for President Trump's visit to China later this year.
The ambassador is the longest-serving governor in American history. Previously, he was governor of Iowa for six terms - a cumulative twenty-two years. During the six trade missions he led to China as Iowa representative, Branstad experienced first-hand the importance of a positive and healthy U.S.-China trade relationship.
He said he hopes to visit every province in China during his term and experience local cuisine and nature, but most importantly to understand the Chinese people.
