(ECNS) -- China's theme park market is set to become the world's largest by 2020, surpassing the United States and Japan, according to estimates by consulting company Euromonitor International.
Retail sales of China's theme parks will reach 12 billion yuan, with the daily average number of tourists exceeding 330 million, the report said.
This estimate is backed by other data.
China's theme parks attracted about 200 million tourists in 2016, taking second place in the world, and the theme park industry is gaining momentum, according to a new report by Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town Holding Company, a sponsor unit of the China Tourist Attractions Association.
Of the 20 theme parks in Asia that attracted the most tourists, 13 are in China, a report by the Themed Entertainment Association shows. Newly opened theme parks have shown strong competitive power against Shanghai Disney Resort, it was added.
However, problems remain in the market.
Lack of overall design and planning, less integration with Chinese culture, financing difficulty and weak global management are the main reasons impeding development, according to insiders.
