(ECNS) -- The China Consumers Association on Wednesday strongly reproached some hotels and expressed appreciation and support for consumer supervision and courage after a famous Chinese blogger exposed hygiene problems at more than 10 luxury hotels in China.
The hotels in question included the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai, the recently opened Bulgari Hotel Shanghai, Park Hyatt Beijing, the Aman Summer Palace Luxury Resort in Beijing, and the Sheraton Nanchang Hotel.
Problems at these star-rated hotels seriously violated the Consumer Protection Law and hotel industry regulations, and seriously damaged the legal rights and interests of consumers, such as the right to safety, the right to know, the right to choose, and the right to fair trade, it said.
"Stars of hotels should be removed or downgraded accordingly if they are not worthy of their names," the association said on its official website.
Industry authorities should thoroughly investigate and strengthen supervision, and select the real star-rated hotels worthy of the name for the consumers, it said.
