(ECNS) -- Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba launched its online marketplace Taobao Taiwan, www.taobao.tw, on Wednesday via brand licensing to the subsidiary of a UK company.
Chris Tung, chief marketing officer at Alibaba, said the group has been optimistic about the potential of the online shopping market in Taiwan.
The launch of Taobao Taiwan provides a great opportunity for businesses on the island, who can reach consumers across the world through Alibaba.
Tung said Alibaba's Southeast Asia e-commerce platform Lazada can help Taiwanese businesses access 560 million people in the region’s six countries.
When consumers place orders for goods on Taobao Taiwan, they can easily fetch the goods from three supermarket brands in Taiwan.
During Alibaba’s Singles Day shopping spree on Nov. 11, Taobao Taiwan will also provide hefty subsidies and other incentives to increase sales on the e-commerce website.
