(ECNS) -- An old couple, aged in their seventies, was discharged from hospital in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province, after beating back the novel coronavirus infection.
Cai Yuntao (alias), 77, and his wife, 73, were first diagnosed with common flu at a local community hospital, and experienced no improvement after eight days of treatment.
Turning to Wuhan No. 4 Hospital on Jan. 9, the couple was later diagnosed with critical new coronavirus infection, having to depend on their immune system alone since there is no specific drug for the virus.
"I'm in my 70s, so there's nothing to worry about. I'm calm and worry-free," said Cai.
Thanks to hospital treatment, a good mentality and family care, the couple passed to crisis to improve day by day.
They were discharged from hospital on Feb. 2 and Feb. 7, respectively after full recovery.
Cai said he hopes their story would inspire those still receiving treatment.
Hubei had 31,728 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection by Monday, with 974 deaths and 6,344 cases still in severe or critical conditions.
"Relax and trust medical staff to regain your health," Cai said.
